Mark Coulston’s art + architecture studio is Black Box. The studio is based in the inner west of Sydney. 30 years of architectural practice has generated an interest in the limitless possibilities of ‘spatial’ sculptural ‘constructions’. A desire to create an uninformed beauty, memory, reflection through a limited and restrained repetition of parts in naturally anchored structural patterns – balanced and rational. The pieces are explorations of common and universal dichotomies – consistency/diversity, continuity/opportunity, economy/richness, balance/change – all “looking for a new way of saying the same thing”. (Isamu Noguchi)
Poliform have various pieces on display in their showroom in Sydney and soon in Melbourne. The Sydney showroom have sent through the following images.

As originals are sold I update the timber kits by preparing a new sculpture and bagging the pieces – as with the other kits there is glue and grid paper, but no instructions.

This is a kit I have prepared for the more adventurous. It is less prescriptive then previous kits in that the model was created after the pieces were cut and bagged – I usually make the model first then cut and bag it for the kits. Its a kit from which any number of models could be made. Each kit contains all pieces and glue.

Tully made this sculpture. Very elegant.

The second completed kit – thanks Ollie from Sydney.

A first attempt at sketchup.
